MIA from Secondary Payers
Description
Should the MIA segment with Remark Codes be passed to the provider IF they are recieved from the intermediary by the Secondary Payer?
RFI Response
The MIA segment must be passed to the provider as reported by the payer.
Intermediaries must pass along all information, including remark codes, as reported by the payer.
The subsequent payer (secondary) can take into account the remark codes reported by the previous payer (primary) but reports only the remark codes that apply to their adjudication in their 835.
