Committees

X12 has two committees, the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) and Registered Standards Committee (RSC).

Accredited Standards Committee

The ASC is responsible for developing, maintaining, and interpreting X12 standards eligible for submission as American National Standards or UN/EDIFACT International Electronic Data Interchange Standards. The ASC also publishes technical reports based on the X12 standards it develops and maintains

Steering Committee

The leadership group of the ASC, an Advisory Committee to the Board. Oversees operational activities related to the development and publication of EDI standards developed under the X12 brand that are, or could be, endorsed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as American National Standards (ANS).
Procedures Review Board (PRB)

Responsible for specific matters related to due process and procedural oversight. This includes ensuring compliance with ASC policies and procedures, authority over all procedural matters conducted under the oversight of the Steering Committee, and oversight of work intended for submission to the ANSI.
Policies and Procedures (P&P)

Chartered to make recommendations to the Steering Committee concerning the policies and procedures of the ASC. All actions of P&P are subject to review and approval by the Steering Committee.

The ASC is organized into various subcommittees based on their different and sometimes complementary focus.

X12C – Communications and Controls

Technical components that apply across other subcommittees.
X12F – Finance

Financial services industry’s business activities.
X12I – Transportation

Transportation industry’s business activities.
X12J – Technical Assessment

Technical integrity of X12 work developed by the subcommittees.
X12M – Supply Chain

Supply chain industry's business activities from sourcing to delivery.
X12N – Insurance

Insurance industry’s business activities, from property & casualty, health, and more.

Registered Standards Committee (RSC)

The RSC is responsible for establishing, developing, maintaining, and interpreting X12 work products that align with X12’s mission and meet the established needs of various industry sectors but are not intended for submission as American National Standards.

RSC Subcommittees

The RSC is organized into subcommittees based on different areas of focus.

X12-03 – External Code List Oversight (ECO)

Responsible for the integrity and efficiency of X12’s external code lists.
X12-04 - Business to Everything (B2X)

Responsible for initiating and enabling cross-industry collaboration.
