How to indicate that a member has elected life insurance coverage and convey the elected amount of coverage?
Description

What is the proper way to indicate that a member has elected life insurance coverage? The X12 standard includes this information in the 2400 and 2410 loops, but these loops are not included in the TR3 implementation guide.

If we try to pass the election in loop 2300, then which value should be used in HD03?

Also, how can we convey the amount of coverage elected? We need to support both flat amounts (for example $100,000) and multiples of salary (2 times current salary). We are assuming salary information can be passed in the ICM segment.

Scenario

Subscriber John Doe elects term life insurance coverage at an amount of 2 times current salary.

John Doe's salary is $50,000 per year.

The beneficiary of the policy is Jane Doe.

RFI Response

At this time, Life Insurance coverage is not supported in the 834 Benefit Enrollment and Maintenance TR3, as noted in Section 1.1 Implementation Purpose and Scope.  See the last two sentences of the second paragraph.
