Description
In submitting an 834 with Coordination of Benefits (COB) information, is the REF segment situationally required when the subscriber's SSN is not supplied by the Subscriber as a COB insurance identifier, but is present in the sponsor's records as part of internal identification of a subscriber. If there are no other COB identifiers in such a case, must the REF segment be sent.

The Situational Rule is:
Required if additional COB identifiers are supplied by the subscriber. If not required by this implementation guide, do not send.
If the SSN is not supplied by the subscriber as either the primary or additional benefit identifier, it is not required.
