The note on the 278 Request 2010B and the 278 Response 2010A PER03 and 04 state:
"SITUATIONAL RULE: Required when PER02 is not valued in order to
transmit a contact communication number. If not required by this
implementation guide, do not send."
This differs from the other PER segments that state:
"SITUATIONAL RULE: Required when PER02 is not valued or when the
UMO needs to transmit a contact communication number. If not
required by this implementation guide, do not send."
The first version prohibits the submission of any communication numbers if PER02 contains a contact name. It seems it would still be appropriate and necessary on occassion to provide communication numbers in addition to contact names. Was this the workgroups intent?
No, the work group's intent was not to prohibit the ability to send a communications number. This will be corrected in the next version of the TR3.
