X12 Member Representatives: Ransomware Attack Update

As we reported to you earlier this week, on March 29th, the X12 servers were the victim of a ransomware attack. Staff has spent the last few days assessing the infiltration, working with experts, confirming the integrity of the data, and putting together plans to protect X12’s web resources more effectively in the future.

We know you rely on X12’s systems, applications, and data, sometimes on a daily basis, and that this outage is impacting you very directly. We are committed to ensuring what you need is available in a more secure, robust, and scalable environment as quickly as possible.

First, I want to assure you that the information stored on X12’s servers was protected during this attack. We do not store financial or credit card information and the hackers were not able to extract the personal and organizational data we do store from our servers.

Once our new infrastructure architecture is ready, we will begin the process of enabling X12’s critical systems, applications, and information. We are looking forward to getting these important tools back in your hands as soon as possible.

Over the next few weeks, you can access the most current status information, and other functionality as it is enabled through www.neX12.org and www.X12.org. We’ll be sending direct updates like this one as well. Please communicate the information to others in your organization who are active X12 collaborators or who access X12’s web-based resources as part of their responsibilities.

Again, we apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your continuing patience.

Cathy Sheppard
X12 Executive Director
