ST02 in 276
Description
There is a payer that is rejecting our 276 transaction because we are using alpha characters in the 276 ST02 field. The field shows that it is alpha numeric, but they are hanging up on the description that uses the term number.
RFI Response
The ST02 data element within the 005010X212 TR3 has a Data Type AN – String. A String data element is a sequence of any characters from the basic or extended character sets. Therefore, it is compliant with the 276 5010 TR3 to use alpha characters in the ST02.
ASC X12 does not govern or take a position on the receiver's actions when receiving a transaction.
