X12 General Session Moves to Sunday Evening

As you know, X12 conducts a General Session at every standing meeting. At the General Session, X12 leaders update the members on the organization’s strategic activities, operations, elections, and committee activities.

Historically, this session has been on Monday evening. Beginning with the upcoming Summer meeting in Philadelphia, the General Session will be on Sunday evening with a dinner reception to follow.

We are making this change for several reasons.

  • Important updates will be provided at the first session of the standing meeting, instead of after the subcommittees and subordinate groups have met for a full day.
  • Subcommittees can utilize the full day on Monday for their collaboration activities.
  • Subcommittees can update their constituents on how the General Session information impacts their subcommittee as part of their Monday kick-off sessions.
  • For subcommittees with subordinate groups, those groups can discuss the information presented at the General Session and their subcommittee’s kick-off session as part of their Monday agenda.
  • Monday evenings will be available for other activities. These activities might include joint meetings between two or more X12 groups, a detailed discussion of a topic presented on Sunday evening, or a discussion of legislative, regulatory, or other external activities that do or might impact X12’s activities.

This change was discussed with several groups on Thursday of the Winter meeting in Portland, and it was well-received by most attendees.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we institute this change to make the Standing meetings even more productive and informative, benefiting both attendees and the organization. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday evening in Philadelphia.

If you have any questions, please submit them via the X12 feedback form.
