Using the Loop 2300 K3 Segment for Clearinghouse ID (837)
Description
Can we use the K3 segment to specify the clearinghouse ID?
Scenario
Once we receive an 837 claim from the clearinghouse, we will verify whether it is an FFS or MC claim. If it is an MC claim, we will include the TCN in the REFD9 segment and send the claim to the MCO system for adjudication. While adding the TCN, if the inbound claim contains the clearinghouse ID in the REFD9 segment, we will move this value to the K301 element, as the MCO requires the clearinghouse ID.

The K3 Segment is used in ASC X12N claim transactions to support a temporary solution for unexpected data requirements of a legislative or regulatory authority. Its use must be approved by X12.
